This beautiful brooch is from New Zealand and features an inlay of well figured Paua Shell to the sterling silver.
The brooch is in the shape of the New Zealand Tui Bird. It is quite distinctive with its throat tufts. The colours of the bird are iridescent green blue and bronze which make it an ideal subject for Paua Shell.
The back of the brooch is stamped Sterling Silver and has the silver workshop mark of Ataahua, the bee mark. Ataahua means a thing of great beauty in the Indigenous New Zealand language.
The catch is missing its central locking part but functions well as a simple C type catch.
Apart from the missing part to the catch there is no damage and the shell is full of colour and very glossy.
The Tui Bird is 50mm x 20mm.
