This brooch is made from Damascene a process by which threads of 24ct gold and high grade silver are hammered into a grooved steel base to create a design and the the entire piece is oxidized to give the backing a sharp black contrast. The process is intricate and time consuming. Japan and Spain are the two countries who are known for high grade Damascene work.
This particular brooch was made by Japanese company Amita indicating a quality manufacture.
The brooch is finely made and in lovely condition.
The brooch is large an measures 51mm across. It secures with a roll over locking clasp and a secure pin.
There is no damage to the brooch and no repairs. The gold plating to the setting is reflective and shows no wear.
