This vintage graduated amber necklace is threaded with a double thread secured with a discrete knot. The strand is continuous and there is no clasp.
The beads are rounded in shape and slightly irregular but no two are the same. There are tiny inclusions within the beads and we can see that the amber has been heated to remove the dirt as there are disc shaped 'spangles' within some of the beads. This occurs when the amber cools. The surface is glossy and smooth. The amber is mostly clear and a rich cognac colour. It is really beautiful.
The strand is 700mm long with the largest central bead being 20mm x 15mm. The smallest beads toward the knot are around 10mm x 10mm. The strand weighs 75gms.
