This piece of vintage jewellery is very beautiful and rather unusual.
Crafted from cut crystal the necklace features faceted spherical beads and graduated rectangular prism shapes that have intricate cuts on the sides and vibrant red glass cane inclusions. There are small red glass bead spacers to the ends of each rectangular shaped bead. The piece is threaded and linked on wire and features a screw together barrel clasp.
It would have been crafted in Europe, most likely Austria, c.1950.
The piece is in lovely condition, there are no missing or cracked beads. The wire is not corroded and the clasp works well. The colour of the metal has darkened with age.
There are some miniscule 'flea bite' chips to the arris edges of some of the facets, but they are truly tiny and would be expected on faceted glass beads of this age. You can see them in the photos.
The strand measures 48cm long and the largest central bead is 2cm across. The smallest faceted beads to the back are 5mm.
