This elegant antique locket is simple in its design and would sit beautifully on an antique book chain. The top has the original large bolt or spring ring to attach to one such chain.
The locket has a fine 4 line pattern to the outer edge to both the front and the back. The back is hallmarked fro Birmingham and has the year letter 'e' for 1897. The makers mark is H.C. We have not been able to identify the maker.
There is a shallow indent to the back as shown which is picked up when the piece is angled to the light. This appears in the last photo. It can also be seen that the surface of the locket is not glossy and shiny reflective but has a fine matt finish.
The locket opens to reveal two places for photos graphs one of which has glass. Both keepers to the spaces are hallmarked with the lion passant.
The hinge works well and the piece closes securely.
The locket is 38mm x 47mm. With the bale and spring ring it measures 70mm long. It weighs 30gms.
