This interesting piece is an Afro Brazilian Slave amulet or charm brooch.
There is an interesting history of this type of piece from the Neprazi Museum of Ethnography.
Used by the African slaves it was a religious item and was supposed to bring good fortune.
This particular one is made from silver metal and it has no markings to indicate what it is made from. We are confident the charms themselves are high grade silver and the top brooch part possibly plated. .
This brooch has 9 charms.
The piece is 65mm across and 85mm deep to the bottom of the wooden arm.
