This is an opportunity to own a beautiful Art Deco vintage vase in wonderful condition.
Made by Hjorth Pottery on the Isle of Bornholm, Denmark, the piece it is hand painted with a scene of a bush turkey on a branch. The design is repeated three times around the vase, each with variations due to the hand painted nature of the design. The clay has been fired at a very high temperature and the brown silky finish to the vase is the finished product of the firing. There is no glaze used to create this finish, only the hand painted design.
The piece is signed to the underside L Hjorth and has the pottery's own stag stamp. It is also signed 9 for the shape. It would date sometime from the 1930-1940's.
The vase is in excellent condition and has no chips, cracks or repairs. There are a few little firing spots where the clay has made tiny pimples in the surface, seen below one turkey's head.
It measures around 220mm tall and around 220mm in diameter at the widest point.
