This is a rare opportunity to own a beautiful and rare lamp in wonderful condition.
Made by Hjorth Pottery on the Isle of Bornholm, Denmark the piece it is hand painted with swirling abstract design. The clay has been fired at a very high temperature and the brown silky finish to the lamp is the finished product of the firing. There is no glaze used to create this finish, only the hand painted design.
The piece is signed to the underside L Hjorth Bornholm. It would date to sometime around 1930.
The lamp is in excellent condition and has no chips, cracks or repairs. It has been fully rewired with a matching gold coloured cord with switch which complies with Australian standards. The electrical wiring and fittings have been tested and the lamp has been tagged by an electrician.
The lamp is large and makes quite a statement. It measures 310mm tall to the base of the fitting and 530mm in total height including the shade around 120mm in diameter at the widest point.
The vintage pleated shade has been matched to the lamp suits it beautifully. It sits on a Danish shade suspension that is height adjustable.
