Synonmous with Finnish design is the brand Marimekko.
Founded in the early 1950's by Armi Ratia it was a evoloution of her earlier textile printing company 'Artex'. The first fashion show featuring dresses in Marimekko designs took place in Helsinki in 1951, and the bright colours and clean lines were an instant success.
The brand soon became internationally recognised, as by the 1960's their designs graced the pages of the world's top fashion Magazines.
Marimekko has had a strong and undying ethos since the days of its conception; bold, modern and unique designs that never shy away from the use of colour.
In recent times Marimekko has expanded its range beyond textiles to now feature homewares. Glassware designed under the Marimekko name is produced by another famous Finnish brand 'Iittala'.
