This very interesting brooch is hallmarked for Birmingham with either a b or h date letter for 1876 or 1882. The markers mark is P&T for Pearce & Thomson
The brooch has a well detailed antique bicycle to the front. At this time safety bicycles with broad saddles and chain guards were being produced for women.
We have never seen a brooch of this age with this subject and we think it is quite rare.
The brooch has a long pin which extends beyond the brooch also helping to date it pre 1890. The tube hinge is in place. The C type catch has been replaced with a 20th Century safety roll over catch. This catch is a little skew but still works.
The brooch is 46mm long and another 2mm with the overhanging pin. It is 15mm wide.
