This antique brooch is made from polished New Zealand Jade or Greenstone and set in 9ct gold. It has a central feature of coral in a gold claw setting. We have sold many green stone brooches but not seen one combined with coral before.
The edges of the greenstone are attractively bevelled. The brooch secures with a C type clasp and the gold pin is hinged with a tube hinge. The pin ends before the end of the brooch indicating it was made in the late 1890's.
There is a safety chain and pin all in 9ct gold. The brooch was designed to be worn to secure the lace worn at the throat of clothing worn in the 1880's and 1890's.
There are no repairs tot h brooch. Under a magnifying glass there are a few tiny nicks that can be seen to the edge of the green stone. They are not visible to the naked eye. The back of the brooch is marked 9ct.
The brooch is 49mm long x 7mm wide.
The brooch weighs 5.4gms.
The gold safety chain is 65mm long and the gold safety pin is 18mm long.
