This beautiful piece is a Russian hand painted trinket or jewellery box.
It made of wood and paper-mache with a lavquered finish over the hand painted scene.
This particular box is also signed Fedoskino for the village of the same name that was the original centre for the artistry of lacquer miniature painting, the original school being founded in 1795.
Today the town still boasts hundreds of highly skilled artists who produce these collectable Russian lacquer miniatures.
This particular piece depicts a winter scene with the tracery of tree branches and a castle like building. Parts of the walled section is raised with a 3D effect. The edges have a marble effect to the finish.
The inside is a bright red.
The box is 97mm x 62mm.
