This beautiful setting is in very good condition. The vintage cutlery features a classic design called Lady Jane. It is one of Rodd's Heirloom sets indicating a double layer of silver to the pieces and often called 2Ag. (Ag being the symbol for silver). The design is plain with a double line to the edges and a widows peak to the back of the handles.
This is a setting for 8 people consisting of 58 pieces. There are 8 dinner knives, 8 entree knives, 8 dinner forks, 8 entree forks, 8 soup spoons, 8 dessert spoons, 8 teaspoons and 2 serving table spoons. The comes in its original double layer timber canteen. The bottom layer is empty and is for storing accessories to the set as they are acquired. Of course the bottom tray could be used to store any other serving cutlery.
The pieces are silver plated with stainless steel knife blades.
This set is in excellent condition and we don't think it has ever been used. It came stored in the box with most pieces still tightly wrapped in their store cellophane. We have unwrapped to check and polish each piece. There are a few very fine marks from polishing.
We are of the opinion it may have been a gift that was never used. When new this set would have cost a small fortune around $1000 in the 1980's.
You can see by the photos just how pristine the finish is to the pieces.
There is no damage to any of the other pieces, no spotting, flaking or loss of silver plate.
The canteen is also in very good condition.
