This lovely spoon is in very good condition.

The spoon is Japanese and has a Toshikane motif to the finial featuring a red Torii Gate to a Shinto shrine. Toshikane is a ceramic process by which layers of ceramic were built up with hand carving of detail between the layers. The final process was to glaze either in gloss or matt and finally a metallic glaze.

This particular spoon features a bright red orange Torii Gate with a shrine in the background with gold highlights. There is no damage to the Toshikane. The spoon handle is formed like bamboo.

The spoon is marked Silver to the back of the motif and sterling to the back of the bowl. The Toshikane mark is with in a part crescent and also in English beneath as shown.

The spoon would have left the workshop with rhodium plating to give a tarnish free finish but this has worn over the years leaving small patches of rhodium plate to the edges of the bowl and spot tarnish to the silver where it is no longer present.  This is shown in the photos.

The spoon is 120mm long.
