This beautiful brooch once belonged to my mother.

During the early 1980's her house was broken into and many jewellery items stolen. Once the insurance was sorted for the stolen goods this is a pearl brooch she chose to replace other stolen items. At the time is was very expensive.

The brooch comprises a large 9mm pearl set in a hand worked organic shaped 9ct gold setting marked 9ct Germany. Pieces like this were made in Germany for the export market. We can tell this because there is a marking of 9ct not 375. German jewellers specifically used the 9ct marking when exporting to English speaking countries. The mid to late 20th Century was the hey day of high quality German jewellery manufacturing. There is also a makers mark of KS with a crescent moon to the right hand side.

The style and marks to the brooch indicate a manufacturing time prior to 1980 so we suggest the jeweller had this piece is stock for a time.

The pearl and setting weigh 2.7gms.

The size of the pearl is unusual and has value on its own. It has a mirror lustre all the way around. When the jeweller set the pearl, he or she set it in such a manner that he two small blisters to the surface of the pearl were at the base next to the setting so hidden from view.

The original 'pearl cement' is still visible which helps to authenticate its age.

The brooch is 3omm long x 12mm wide.
