This beautiful pendant once belonged to my mother.

During the early 1980's her house was broken into and many jewellery items stolen including a pearl pendant given to her by my father just before he died. Once the insurance was sorted for the stolen goods this is a pearl pendant is what she chose to replace it.  At the time is was very expensive.

The pendant comprises a large 15mm baroque pearl set in a hand worked organic shaped cap of 9ct gold setting marked 9ct Germany to the side of the bale. Pieces like this were made in Germany for the export market. We can tell this because there is a marking of 9ct not 375. German jewellers specifically used the 9ct marking when exporting to English speaking countries. The mid to late 20th Century was the hey day of high quality German jewellery manufacturing. There is also a makers mark of KS to the eyelet.

The style and marks to the brooch indicate a manufacturing time prior to 1980 so we suggest the jeweller had this piece is stock for a time.

The pearl and setting weigh 0.9gms indicating the pearl is a Keshi pearl due to the lightness of the piece. Keshi pearls are solid nacre all the way through and as such more light weight than a cultured pearl of similar size which has a heavy bead nucleus.

Without the internal nucleus Keshi Pearls are more radiant, organic and naturally light than their cultured cousins. As can be seen the pearl has extremely high lustre.

The pendant is 22mm long x 8mm wide. As mentioned the pearl is 15mm long.

We have many items of vintage jewellery to view.
