This 8 person cutlery setting is in the Hampton Court pattern produced by Oneida Community Silversmiths.

Oneida has been associated with high quality cutlery since the mid 1800's, and was formed by the Oneida Community in New York.

Hampton Court was a pattern created in 1936 to celebrate the coronation of King Edward VII and was originally named Coronation. As the new King abdicated, the pattern was renamed Hampton Court within the British Commonwealth but still retained its original name in the USA.

According to a vintage Oneida pamphlet, the design was inspired by the carvings of Grinling Gibbons (1628-1721) who was known as the 'King's Carver' during the reign of Charles II.

The design features motifs of flowers, fruit and reeds on the pierced medallion to the finials and delicate fluting along the length of each handle.

Each piece is stamped Community of Oneida Community. The pieces all have a double coating of silver to the most used parts of the each piece. This can be seen as slightly raised disc shaped marks to the backs of the spoons.

This particular set is a later release of this design typified by the style and length of the knives. All are in very good condition with no pitting or corrosion to the high quality silver plate. There are some light surface scratches to the pieces from storage and use. 3 dessert spoons show more use than the other pieces with more surface scuffs and scratches. We have shown the most scratched spoon. The rest of the set has reflective shiny surfaces. This set has been used but well cared for.

The set comprises 8 hollow handle smooth bladed knives, 8 hollow handled smooth blades entree knives, 8 dinner forks, 8 entree forks, 8 sweets forks, 8 dessert spoons, 8 soup spoons, 8 teaspoons, 8 sweets spoons, two large butter knives and a serving table spoon.  There are 75 pieces.
