This turntable is ex-shop display/demo stock from a large audio retailer.

It is in excellent physical condition, close to perfect cosmetically and "as-new" functionally.

The Marantz TT-42P is a great "plug and play" option, with a quality of sound production that is very good without being quite so accomplished, expensive or complicated as an aspiring "audiophile" might require. For them, a much more technically demanding approach is required.

For anyone who has some vinyl they want to play in a mid-range audio system, this turntable is a good way to go. The tone-arm has been designed specifically for the phono cartridge it carries, so there are no adjustments needed with tracking weight, cartridge alignment or anti-skating.

It has its own on-board phono preamplifier (see explanation below)

This unit is being sold for approximately half its original retail price and is a very good option for someone wanting plug and play convenience, while saving substantially on a near equivalent that is new.

About the phono preamplifier:

With all turntables, the signal from a phono cartridge needs to be fed through a special phono pre-amplifier, before being fed into the rest of an amplification system. Some integrated amplifiers have dedicated "phono input" jacks which means that particular model of  integrated amplifier has its own in-built phono preamp section. However, some models of integrated amplifier simply do not have this feature. When they are missing this feature, a phono preamp then needs to be added in as an extra component between the turntable and the integrated amplifier. The Marantz TT-42P has a phono preamp built into its own chassis. That's what the "P" on the end of the model number stands for. What this amounts to is that the work required by a preamp happens on-board at the turntable, not further downstream. This creates the flexibility for the turntable output leads to be fed into straight into "line level" jacks on the back of any integrated amplifier. The ones usually chosen will be the "auxillary" jacks, but definitely NOT the phono jacks if your integrated does happen to have an inbuilt phono preamp section. Phono preamps are designed to receive the very weak signal voltage that normally comes out of a phono cartridge, not the amplified "line level" signal that comes out of the Marantz TT-42P. If your integrated amp does happen to have phono jacks, these will not be used when you hook up the Marantz TT-42P.
