This lovely necklace is in very good condition.
The necklace is marked 835 Silver.
The ornate piece features 2 large decorative links to the centre with a tear drop, all studded in sparkling marcasites in an Art Deco design. The large pieces are hinged at the central join. The necklace section comprises hinged links as well, all set with marcasite stones. This piece would be European in origin and with the 835 mark is most likely German.
The marcasite section is simply beautiful with finely tooled and beaded edges and the marcasites themselves have been bead set. This means the stones are set with tiny pieces of silver lifted up and over the stone (like a claw) to hold them in place.
This was a very time consuming process and cannot be compared with modern glued in marcasite.
The closure is a new sterling silver bolt ring clasp as the original was missing. We can see that the last link to the marcasite to one side has a replacement as it is made from copper not silver.
There is no damage to the piece and no missing stones.
The necklace measures 460mm long including the small length of silver chain. The large marcasite links to the centre are around 65mm long.
