This beautiful parasol is in extremely good condition.
The parasol features an antique English hallmarked repousse sterling silver handle and a mid century NylFrance Nylon canopy. This is a luxury marriage piece.
In the early to mid century wealthy people often took heirloom umbrellas or parasols to high end umbrella makers to have them expertly fitted with modern durable nylon canopies.
The brand NylFrance was a French trademark for the company who produced high quality nylon fabrics and clothing. They were active in the 1940's-1970's. There is NylFrance branding to the rim of the canopy and the strap that secures the canopy closed.
The parasol would have have begun its life back in 1897 when the handle was made. It is hallmarked for London 1897 with a makers mark of TD. We think this is Thomas Daniels.
The handle appears to be painted cane and the struts of the umbrella are all painted black. The Nylon canopy has a subtle self patterning. The mechanism works beautifully and the entire piece is functional. To finish off the parasol has a black tassel.
The parasol has a matching cover which neatly fits with a metal collar at the top.
This is one special piece.
The only things to mention are the paint to the handle is flaking in spots. Where the framework of the canopy touches the nylon when closed some of the black has rubbed off. The cover is a little grubby. There is an indent to the silver handle at the top as shown.
The handle measures 180mm and the entire length of the parasol is 815mm.
