This beautiful piece of Australian antique jewellery is in very good condition. The gorgeous pendant is clearly stamped to the inside back with the Victorian Jewellers Association mark of an emblem ( in this case a knot) 9 (for 9ct) and a sheath of wheat, the standard for 9ct gold.
The jeweller's mark of the knot is that of Joseph Lawrence Pty Ltd, active from c1890. The company resided in Elizabeth House, Melbourne. Pieces from this jeweller are hard to find and this piece is in exceptionally good condition.
The pendant is set with a faceted topaz blue paste stone. The setting is prettily worked with scroll work. The 15ct gold chain has a fancy link and secures with a 15ct gold barrel clasp. There is also a gold safety chain and pin to the clasp end for extra security.
There is no damage to the pendant and no repairs. The stone is clear and free from scratches or chips, it is simply beautiful. The gold in both pendant and chain is a soft rose gold. The chain has one section 8cm from the clasp where the fancy link is thinned. We have had our jeweller test the strength and he is confident the chain is still strong and did not recommend soldering it. I have circled the link.
The pendant is 30mm long with the stone being 14mm x 11mm. The gold chain is 450mm long. Total weight is 6gms.
