This lovely set will certainly turn heads and elicit comments from your guests at meal time!
The set is a set of Norwegian spoons and forks matched with a set of German Knives. The people who had this set before we purchased it used them together. The shape of the handles compliment each other well.
The spoons and forks are all marked for H.P. Henriksen 830S, the way Norwegian silver has been marked since 1891. The silver purity of 830 is still in use today but since 1920 the silver standard of 925 predominated.
These pieces date to around 1900 and are beautiful with finials bright cut in an elegant design with very fine edge tooling. There are initials to the front which looks like an H.
The knives date to a similar time with the German mark 800 the crescent moon and crown. The finials are engraved MW. The blades are fine steel crafted in the steel workshop of J.A. Henckles Solingen Germany. These pieces are simply beautiful in their manufacture.
There are 12 dinner knives, 10 entree knives, 12 dinner forks, 12 entree forks, 12 dinner spoons, 11 dessert spoons. There is a setting for 10 people with spares.
The knives are 252mm long, the entree knives 208mm, the dinner forks 212mm long, the entree forks are 185mm, the dinner spoons 217mm and the dessert spoons 189mm.
Two spoons and two forks have some dark spots and some of the steel knife blades have marks. One entree knife has a gap between the blade and the handle. We have photographed these things. The set presents beautifully.
The definition of the spoons edges shows they have not been used very much and there are no indents to the bowls. The dinner forks have crisp tines. The entree forks do show some wear to the outside tines. One entree knife has a small indent to the handle as shown.
The silver spoons and forks weigh around 2385gms (excludes knives). The knives weigh around 1466gms in total. The dinner spoons are around 60gms each, the dessert spoons are around 40gms each, the dinner forks are around 68gms each and the entree forks 37gms each.
