This stunning setting is in the pattern called Rio marked to the back ABSA the silver plate trade mark used by the Copenhagen spoon factory Amager. The Danish pattern is in an Art Nouveau style with a hibiscus type flower to the finial. There are no knives in this setting. If you wish for knives please ask us as we usually have several types in stock.
Apart from the maker's marks to the back there is a quality torch mark used on silver plate from around 1928-1932. It has small letters FDG to the centre indicating it was issued by the Danish Goldsmiths Association. (Roughly translates from Faellesreprentationen Danske Guldsmede) Some of the pieces were made with the later quality torch mark which did not include the letters FDG so were produced after 1932.
We have found that the quality of Danish silver plate cutlery is very high. The silver plating is thick and pieces wear extremely well. The patterns are timeless in their appeal and so different from other designs generally found in Australia. We just love them.
The set comprises 12 place setting with 5 serving pieces. There are 12 dinner forks, 12 large Continental soup spoons, 12 dessert spoons and 12 teaspoons. There is a large serving spoon, a smaller serving spoon and three small meat forks. There are 53 pieces.
Although used the pieces present well with only fine usage scratches. There are some light scuff marks to the backs and spotting to the side edges to the forks as shown. The fact that there is no silver loss to the fork tines show this set has not been used very much. One teaspoon has some marks to the back where it looks like a child has banged it on a table top, this is photographed.
This is a rare opportunity to obtain such a large Danish setting which would grace any table with elegance and style.
