Michael Bang was the designer of the series this pot or planter belongs to. He designed the series after a trip to Japan where he was inspired by the cherry blossoms. The series is called Sakura (cherry blossom) and was designed for Holmegaard Glassworks in Denmark in 1983.
This particular piece was designed as a pot planter and features a rolled out rim with an abstract design in dusky pink shades over white opal glass cased in clear glass. Each piece from this series is unique from the next but echoes each other in design. No two pieces are identical. It also makes a good display piece on its own and especially when grouped with other pieces in this series.
The idea was to put a potted plant inside the piece for display making it ideal on a wooden surface as glass is impervious. No water rings here!
There is no damage to this lovely piece.
The planter is 150mm tall and around 150mm in diameter.
