This dainty brooch is in the form of a key with the top section being a locket for a photo.
It is a rose gold colour and is stamped 1/10 9ct indicating it is gold filled or lined. This means a solid layer of gold is heat attached to the base metal ( silver or copper ) at a proportion of one part gold to 9 parts of the base metal.
This is the best form of gold plating there is.
The brooch is prettily engraved.
There is a hinged pin and a safety pin style clasp which helps to date the brooch to the 1920's. There is a safety chain and pin for added security. The eyelets used for the safety chain could also be used to suspend the brooch from a chain and make it double up as a pendant.
There is no wear to the gold, there is some rippling around one side edge of the locket section where it has been opened.
The brooch is 38mm x 18mm.
