This elegant antique chain has long fancy links joined by chain links with a matching twist pattern. It has a t bar and single dog clip. The dog clip is English hallmarked with a date letter i for 1904. The large decorative links are marked with the English assay for sterling silver i.e. that of the lion passant.
Although originally this would have been a fob watch chain it is long enough and the links large enough to be worn as a short necklace on its own.
There are two types of links, one of which has a wire twist to the centre but is identical in all other aspects. These are the last two links to the chain and are attached with a smooth round link, please see the photos.
There are five links to one side and 4 links to the other, as such the chain closure does not sit at the the centre back.
Obviously the chain has been altered at some stage a long time ago. We added a silver round link to the end so the dog clip could attach. We weren't sure if it was even sterling when we first received it as it was caked in grime and dirt.
The chain is 440mm long, making a good necklace length. Each longer link is around 27mm long. The chain weighs 38.6gms.
We have many items of vintage jewellery to view.
