This table is a great option for those seeking a Mid-Century coffee table that is practical for family use.
The piece features elegant solid teak cylindrical legs and upturned sleigh ends, and the top of the table is finished with black melamine laminate. It is an authentic vintage piece with original finishes.
The style of the piece is what has been recently labelled as 'Japandi' a fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics. This is not a modern phenomenon. Designers in the 1960's and 70's were highly influenced by both Scandinavian and Japanese aesthetics. The effect of the black laminate echoes Japanese 'ebonised' furniture, and the upturned ends are also possibly informed by the upward curves favoured in traditional Japanese architecture and design. This is combines with the warmth of teak and the simplicity of design so often seen with Scandinavian furniture designs of this era.
We have seen one other vintage table here in Adelaide like this, and believe it is locally made, possibly by Parker, but we cannot confirm this as we have found no named examples and no vintage advertising examples.
It is in very good condition, with light usage marks to the melamine.
The table measures 114cm long, 60cm wide, and 47.5cm high.
