Michael Bang designed these lamps for the Danish Glass company Holmegaard in the early 1980's. They form part of the Sakura Art Glass range featuring lamps, bowls and planters. Sakura is the Japanese word for Cherry Blossom. At this time of his life Michael Bang was very interested Japanese aesthetics which influenced many of his glass designs.

The glass in the Sakura range is an opaque white with hand applied accents of inky blue black & ox blood red, soft grey, and a delicate rose pink. Each lamp has a hand applied design within the blown glass so no two pieces are ever made exactly the same. As can be seen with this pair the designs are complimentary in colour but different in their application.

The lamps have an elegant satin finish to the stainless necks. There is a small amount of spotting to the stainless steel.

We noticed one lamp base has a small cluster of scratches which are photographed after being rubbed with lead pencil to show them up.

This particular pair features the inky blue, black with hints of rich deep dark red or ox blood. They both retain original stickers to the underside of the bases that has the lamp's name or design as well as the shape type of the lamp as there were several different sizes and shapes available. This lamp is the 'lille kugle' which translates to 'little ball'.

The lamps have been fitted with three pin plugs for use in Australia and retain the original Danish fitting and E27 screw bulb holder. The lamps retain their shade holders for Danish shades with a halo shaped stands. These are height adjustable. We have matched the lamps with brand new white Danish pleated PVC shades. The beauty with these shades is that not only do they look good but they easily cleaned by running under warm water.

The lamps have been safety tested and tagged by an electrician to comply with Australian Standards.

The glass bases measure 17cm in diameter and the height of the lamp including the satin stainless neck is 23cm to the base of the fitting. In total including the shades the lamps are 46cm high. The shades are 36cm in diameter and 24cm high.
