This beautiful buckle is in very good condition.

The buckle was a family piece handed from my grandmother to my mother. However the initials on the buckle have no family connection and I suppose that my grandmother picked it up to put to good use as a second hand item. She lived north of Sydney so it is most likely the piece is of New South Wales origin. The markings on the back show a passant lion, a stamp used by several of the early silver smiths of New South Wales. It is also nicely stamped Sterling Silver in the Australian manner. The style and bright cut engraving date to the piece to the mid 1800's.

The buckle is bright cut and beautifully engraved D. R. There is a well crafted belt rod to the back which is hinged and works very smoothly. The three prongs to the front are sharp and well crafted.

The buckle is 45mm x 76mm.
