This elegant antique locket is beautifully decorated with flowers and leaves. There is a delicate fuchsia bloom and nodding bell flowers amongst little fern fronds.
The locket is hallmarked for Chester with a date letter S for the year 1881. The makers mark is J F. We have not been able to identify the maker.
The locket opens to show two glass covered photo sections. Under the glass remains locks of hair from someone long since gone. The glass to one side is cracked as shown.
There is a heavy bale to the top which pivots on the bar. The locket has a strong hinge to the side which works well and the locket closes securely.
The locket is 45mm long x 35mm across. It is 6mm deep. It measures 65mm in total length including the bale.
The locket comes with a solid 830S silver chain measuring 720mm long which secures with a large antique 15mm bolt ring clasp. The locket weighs 24gms, the locket and chain weigh 38.7gms.
