This beautiful spoon is in lovely condition.

The spoon is in the Danish pattern called Antik Rococo and features an ornate design with traditional horizontal banding. The finial is almost a trefoil design with an upward tilt and curl. The bowl is softly gilded and is shaded in the from of a leaf.

The back of the spoon is marked J. ODDF 830S and this mark helps to date the spoon to the late 1800's-early 1900's. The three tower assay mark was introduced in 1893 as a national standard and although most silversmiths used the mark some didn't.

The back of the handle is ornately engraved with the letters AFC or AH and the date 1919. We have seen many Danish spoons engraved in this manner with later dates than the manufacture of the spoon. it is possible the spoon was given as a wedding gift or something similar. Silver spoons were held in high regard in Denmark and often given as gifts.

There is no damage to this lovely spoon with only light scratches and scuffs from use or storage.

The spoon measures 248mm long and weighs 53.5gms.
