The vase is unglazed (the meaning of Sueyaki) and presents as dark orange red. It has a dragon winding its way around the vase half hidden by clouds. The handles have touches of gold as have the visible parts of the dragon. The clouds have a stippled effect and have a dark particles within them, giving them good texture and depth. There are various stamped and impressed designs to the base and rim. From my research these pieces date to the early 20th century.
I find these vintage Tokaname pieces quite striking and they also create a good talking point.
The vase is sound and presents beautifully.
It measures 300mm tall.
