Product Description

This sublime piece of Art Glass was designed by Willy Johansson for Hadeland Glassworks, Norwary.

Hadeland Glassworks has a long history and is the oldest existing industrial company in Norway. It was founded in 1762 and was initially primarily an industrial bottle manufacturer. It was not until the 1920's that the company branched out to encorporate tableware and at glass.*

Willy Johansson started working for Hadeland Glassworks in 1936 at the tender age of 15. After training at the State school of Applied Art & Crafts in Oslo he returned to Hadeland as a designer in 1946 and later became the head designer. He worked there until 1988. He is a significant figure in glass design and his works are featured in Museums across Scandinavia and also within the Corning Museum of Glass in America.*

The piece is engraved to the base Hadeland WJ. The piece is in excellent condition with only fine scratching to the base and no chips or cracks.

The background colour of the glass is a deep sea green-blue with a very fine feathering of cobalt blue that intensifies into spirals that accentuate the form of the piece. The piece is cased within clear glass forming a heavy, sturdy vase.

The piece measures 13.5cm tall and approximately 13.5cm in diameter.
