Product Description

This striking pair is made from high grade silver. Each is marked to the fitting 'Silver Mexico' indicating it was made pre 1948 when the Eagle mark was first introduced. The silver assay of Mexican silver at that time was often higher than sterling at 980/1000. This particular piece is a recognizable design called Cocos created by Just Coco Castillo when working for William Spratling. The design was copied by other silver smiths of the time as it was so popular. As this piece has no maker's mark I cannot identify the maker only the design.

The distinctive design has two balls enclosed with a trefoil leaf design and joined to the fitting with a rope twist ring. The fittings to the earrings are the screw type.

There are no repairs to the pieces and only one insignificant and a few shallow indents to the balls, as shown. The silver is sound and has no tears or holes. There are solder marks evident and a few other lumps and bumps to the silver all of which indicate the hand made nature of the pieces. The rouns backing plates of the fittings are different sizes, another indicator of the hand manufacture.

The earrings are 42mm long from the top of the attached ball on the screw fittings tothe bottom of the drop. They are 20mm wide.
