This beautiful lamp features solid brass with a pink marble base and central column and is in lovely condition.
The piece is beautifully made with exquisite detail in the bronze decoration which would have originally been gilded. The gold has worn giving a pleasing patina.
Originally, the base would have been made for an oil lamp, c.1870. The lamp featured a Corinthian Column design which was very fashionable in the banquet lamps of the Victorian era. It was most likely made in France.
It has been electrified to turn it into a stunning and practical table lamp.
The marble is well figured and has no cracks. There are some rubs to the corners of the base and some minor chipping to the bottom edge as shown. The shade is a well chosen new shade and works extremely well with the antique base.
The lamp has been rewired with new double insulated cord in a golden colour to best match the lamp , and the lamp holder and new plug comply with Australian standards. It has been tested and tagged by an electrician.
The lamps stand 380mm to the top of the brass collar. With the shade the total piece measures 660mm tall.
