Product Description

This beautiful Danish setting was made around the 1930's.  The pieces are marked ATLA the trade name used by Cohr Silver from 1926. Cohr was one of the highest regarded Silver smith workshops in Denmark.

The set comprises a 6 person cutlery setting comprising 6 of each knife, dinner fork, entree fork, soup spoon, dessert spoon and teaspoon, making 36 pieces. The design is called Kings Bridge and features a hammered design to the handles with mid section horizontal banding. The knives are of the same or slightly earlier era and manufactured in Denmark with cow bone handles. The knives are quite lovely and feature broad blades secured to the bone handles with a rod that passes through the entire handle and is seen at the end. The ferrules are silver plated over brass and one knife has the brass exposed where the plating has worn as shown. There are some fine fissures to the bone which can be seen as dark vertical lines down the handles. It will be important to look after these knives and wash them by hand so they keep in good condition.

We have found that the quality of Danish silver plate cutlery is very high. The silver plating is thick and pieces wear extremely well. The patterns are timeless in their appeal and so different from other designs generally found in Australia. We just love them.

The silver plate to these pieces is in very good condition with some minor usage scratches. One entree fork has a some plating loss to the edge of the handle as shown. There is no other wear through to the plating or corrosion spots. The knife handles are all secure and in very good condition. The forks have engraved initials to the back of the handles.

This set will enhance any table setting for years to come.

The knives are 240mm long, the dinner forks and soup spoons around 200mm, the dessert spoon and entree fork around 180mm and the teaspoon 125mm long.
