Product Description

This vintage pin was designed by Arno Malinowsky for Georg Jensen in 1940 to commemorate the 70th birthday of King Christian X of Denmark, born in 1870. Denmark was invaded by the German army in April 1940 and Georg Jensen Silver released a pin issued with the Kingmark or royal emblem to boost the moral of the Danish people. It has the Kings initials and the years 1870-1940 over the red and white Danish flag. The pin was designed at a time when silver was scarce and the use of enamel allowed less silver to be used. Georg Jensen was finding times very tough due to the war and unwittingly the release of the pins created a huge financial boost to the company and allowed trade to continue.  The pins were very popular and became a symbol of resistance to the German occupation of Denmark.

The pin is marked 925 for sterling silver and has the Georg Jensen mark used from 1933-1944. This particular piece has a strip of silver added to the back to which the eyelets for the chains are suspended.

This is a symbolic piece of history made by one of the most famous silver workshops in the world.

There is no damage to the pin or the enamel.

The pin is 35mm long x 14mm wide.
